Railworks utilized a self-propelled Maxon Mobile Maxcrete mounted on rail wheels during final installation and concrete placing on the REM Light Rail project in Montreal, Canada being constructed by NouvLR (a partnership consisting of AtkinsRéalis, Dragados Canada Inc., Groupe Aecon Québec Ltée, Pomerleau Inc. and EBC Inc).

Hi-rail equipped ready mix trucks delivered 10 cubic yard (7 cu m) loads from the local ready mix plant to the site.  Temporary tracks already in place allowed the hi-rail equipped trucks to transport the concrete into the newly constructed tunnel from the Murie Curie station, just north of the airport, to the new sub-surface terminal at the airport. The hi-rail concrete trucks “drove” a short distance into the tunnel and discharged directly to the Maxon Mobile Maxcrete.

The Mobile Maxcrete was equipped with 17 foot long charge and discharge conveyors. The charge conveyor allowed concrete to be discharged from the trucks and conveyed into the open-top Mobile Maxcrete.  The hopper of the Maxcrete was equipped with an internal agitation shaft, allowing Railworks to retemper the concrete as needed to ensure the best quality concrete. The 17 foot discharge conveyor allowed the Maxcrete to simultaneously feed a rail car mounted pump that continuously pumped concrete 500 feet down the track.

Railworks team finished the concrete embedding of the bi-block ties into the newly poured mat in under 3 months.  The new track allowed REM to service passengers coming to and from the Montreal Pierre Trudeau airport in the new subsurface light rail terminal.
